Gulfport shooting suspect turns himself in

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

The man accused of gunning down another man in Gulfport turned himself in to the police Wednesday. According to Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania, Corey Anthoine Howell, 28, is charged with aggravated assault.

Papania said police responded to reported gunfire in the area of Polk Street and Georgia Avenue Wednesday afternoon where they found the male victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators learned the victim was involved in an argument outside of a house on South Carolina Avenue where he was shot while trying to run away.

Papania said Howell was identified as the suspected shooter and had fled in a vehicle.

Howell later turned himself in at the Gulfport Police Department in the presence of his attorney, and is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $200,000 bond.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated for non life threatening injuries.
