(WMC-TV) - An investigation is underway after a 5-year-old was reportedly found in a closet at her elementary school.

An A. B. Hill Elementary School administrator called police after finding the little girl in the closet. A preliminary investigation revealed a teacher reportedly left the girl in the closet and then left.

"She said, my teacher, put me in the closet and told me not to come out," said kindergarten student Akeelah Joseph.

For an estimated 45 minutes to an hour, Akeelah remained in the closet.

"I peed on myself," said Akeelah.

Her teacher, Kristin Ohsfeldt, is accused of putting her in there and is now suspend.

Akeelah's mother, Wanda, wants her fired.

"It's been going through my head, like, oh it just disgusts me," she said. "She suspended, she needs to be fired from her job."

Memphis-Shelby County Education Association President Keith Williams confirmed Ohsfeldt had been referred to labor relations twice but was not sure of the reasons.

One woman said her granddaughter is in Ohsfeldt's class and that the closet was for time out.

"As soon as she got home from school she let me know," said grandparent Deanna Williams. "[My granddaughter] also said that the teacher is a nice teacher but when the teacher puts them in there for time out that she gives them a book, she gives them beads to count and it's just a timeout, but my concern was why we weren't informed."

Williams said a closet is no place for time out.

Police, child services, and the district are all investigating but no charges have been filed. Once the investigation is complete, Williams said the district or state must decide her fate.
