SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A man charged in the 2012 slaying of a woman is sentenced to life without possibility of parole plus 35 years.

Shan Cheley was convicted of killing Amber Deloach in Savannah. Deloach's body was found in the trunk of her burned car in September 2012.

A jury convicted Cheley in December of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, first-degree arson and possession of cocaine.

Prosecutors asked the judge to sentence Cheley for the arson and drug charges he was also convicted of, adding 35 years to his life sentence.

The prosecution said they wanted to make sure that there was no possibility that Cheley could ever get out of jail.

Amber Deloach's family was there and has been in court since the very beginning. Her dad says even though this won't bring Amber back, their family is pleased with the judge's decision.

"We are grateful that this part of our life is over and that justice was served for Amber, and we had all of our confidence in the District Attorney's office and the police department to get this resolved," said William Deloach.

Cheley did not testify at his sentencing. Deloach's father did testify.
