NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – It's a yearly competition of skill. Band students from 30 counties and 64 high schools from across the eastern half of the state, try out for a spot in the Eastern District Honor Band. Only the best of the best are selected, and this year more than three dozen area students made the cut.

Auditions for the district honor band were held in Greenville this year. Students were required to learn numerous scales and a difficult solo for their particular instrument.

37 students from New Hanover County, representing each of the 4 high schools in the county, were selected to play in the band. Only 190 students make the cut every year.

The selected band members will rehearse for two days before performing a concert Feb. 1 at the Wright Auditorium on the campus of ECU at 5:30 p.m.
