KSLA News 12 Editorial: Jan. 13th-Medicaid Viewer Feedback

The decision of Louisiana and Texas governors to not expand Medicaid in their states is a hot topic.

In my editorial last month, I urged both governor's to change their position because they are leaving thousands of their citizens without health coverage.

Here are some of the comments I received. Martha writes:

"Bravo for your comments today about keeping politics out of healthcare decisions made by the 'leaders' of Louisiana and Texas. It is time to consider what's best for our citizens."

But others had a different opinion including Cary from Maud, Texas:

"The governors are doing exactly what we elected them to do, and that is push back against the socialist policies of the Obama administration. Since it is obvious you are in lockstep with them, why not move to a blue state? The farther away from the ArkLaTex the better, we don't need liberals here!"

As it now stands, neither Louisiana or Texas have expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. Arkansas has.

As always, thank you for your comments.

I'm James Smith.

Tonight at 11:59 p.m., KSLA's extended agreement with DirecTV will expire and they may drop this station from their lineup. We have been working hard to stay on their system, but they have simply refused to make a fair deal.
