CLINTON, CT (WFSB) -

A local man posted a video of him standing next to marijuana plants on YouTube and was arrested by local police after they viewed it online.

Westbrook resident William Bradley, 46, is getting the 15 minutes of fame he's been asking for, except probably not in the way he was hoping.

His YouTube video, "William Bradley, Hope Garden," has more than 3,000 hits and counting.

"I'm putting myself out there," he said in the video. "I'm putting myself out there because I need your help. Let's get this video viral. I know we can do it."

But that's also the reason he spent the night behind bars.

"I need to get my marijuana license so that I don't have to be a criminal anymore," he said in the video.

In the video, Bradley films himself with his marijuana plants behind him. He said he's terminally ill with cancer and wants to help people.

"Help people that need this medicine," he said. "Don't let me sell it so that children get a hold of it."

Then he continues by asking for money.

"I need your donations so that I can help other people out there," he said. "If you could just send that to my address that I gave you. Again, my name is William Bradley."

Clinton police said they were on to Bradley as soon as they came across the video, and even recognized him from previous drug arrests.

That's why they set up surveillance and watched him for months.

During the course of the investigation police said they discovered that he kept a storage bin at a facility on Nob Place. They said police dogs located it by sniffing it out.

Officials said inside was more than two pounds of pot, cocaine and other drugs and paraphernalia.

While Channel 3 Eyewitness News was out covering the story, our news crew ran into Brian Goodrich, who said he rented a room to Bradley and knew marijuana he used made him feel better.

"I watched him almost go through his death bed because of the cancer," he said.

But he said he also noticed a change in Bradley shortly after he suffered a head injury in a motorcycle crash, which he thinks may have led him to post the video to YouTube.

"He has been different ever since he's had his head injury," Goodrich said.

No matter Bradley's message or intent, Goodrich said this is the bottom line: "He should have known he was going to get arrested," he said.

Bradley is out on bond and is set to appear before a judge later this month.
