Jackson residents to vote on local sales tax hike

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

On Tuesday morning Jackson voters will head to the polls to decide on a one-percent sales tax increase.

Some residents are questioning how this money will be spent.

Supporters say the increase would go toward addressing the city's crippled infrastructure.

The revenue from the sales tax increase would go to fix the city's water and sewer systems, as well as potholes in the city's roadways.

If it passes the sales tax will go up one-percent on everything except: groceries, prescription drugs, food and drinks at restaurants, hotel and motel rooms, gas, and television and Internet subscription services.
