WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Westminster man has been charged after deputies said he took his wife from her place of work at gunpoint, assaulted her, and then took her shopping.

Jimmy Watt of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office said deputies received a call just after noon on Thursday from a person saying the victim had texted him saying she had been taken at gunpoint from Schneider Electric on Sandifer Boulevard and was assaulted.

Watt said the suspect was identified as 58-year-old Douglas Ray Holden, of Westminster.

Deputies were able to contact Holden, who said he was shopping in Georgia and the victim was OK, according to Watt. Holden then agreed to meet with deputies at the Georgia-South Carolina state line, Watt said.

When they met, deputies said the victim told them Holden pulled up in front of her car at work and placed a gun to his chest, threatening to take his own life.

According to Watt, the victim reported getting into Holden's truck, where she noticed the lock had been duct taped. Holden reportedly assaulted the woman by hitting her with the gun, Watt said.

The victim told deputies Holden then took her to Clayton, GA to go shopping, according to Watt.

Deputies said Holden was placed under arrest after they noticed injuries on the victim. They said when they inventoried Holden's vehicle they found two firearms in the tool box, a roll of duct tape, and fresh blood was seen in the truck.

Holden has been charged with kidnapping, criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, Watt said.

Holden's bond was set at $450,000 cash or surety by Magistrate Todd Simmons on Friday.
