Memorial Hospital construction to cause road closures

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Memorial Hospital in Gulfport is about to undergo some major renovations. According to hospital officials, construction is about to begin on the main patient tower.

The hospital will be getting a facelift when the brick facade is removed and replaced with a glass shell. Expansion of the patient rooms is also in the works.

Two tower cranes will be erected for the construction that will temporarily close some roads around the hospital.

Thirteenth Street between 44th and 45th Avenue will be closed today and tomorrow.  Officials said on these days patients will be discharged through the Memorial Parking Garage entrance on the first floor. Traffic will be diverted south on 44th Avenue to 11th Street and then to 45th Avenue.

Old Pass Road between 45th Avenue westward to Broad Avenue will be closed on Wednesday January 15 and Thursday January 16. All traffic will be diverted south on 44th Avenue to Thirteenth Street for access to Broad Avenue.

Hospital officials ask that you avoid this area if at all possible.
