H&M will open its doors in Ridgeland

RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Northpark Mall will soon be the home to the Swedish based multinational retail clothing store H&M. Ridgeland's mayor reveals it could open its doors sometime in 2014.

Mayor Gene McGee says, "This obviously a tremendous addition not only to Northpark Mall, but to Ridgeland and Mississippi."

H&M is a design driven global fashion company. It is known to offer high end fashion looks, but for inexpensive prices. You can find the Swedish based company in 53 countries and soon in Ridgeland.

"About a 24 thousand square foot store. Its actually going to take space on two floors. They will have their own internal elevator in the store," says McGee.

H&M started its fashion network in 1947 with its first store in Sweden. Today there are three thousand stores with more than 100 thousand employees. Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee believes this company that is noted as the second largest global clothing retailer will be a huge impact for the city and Northpark Mall.

"I think it's really going to benefit the retail market here. Overall, all the stores are going to benefit. And I also believe it is going to entice other top retailers to want to relocate in this area," says McGee.

The fast fashion company offers a multitude of merchandise for its customers. Along with accessories it has a clothing line for men, women, teenagers and children. H&M's design company is based out of its home office in Sweden. There the team controls the merchandise planning and production plans.

"And when we realized we were going to get there here in Ridgeland, that really was just icing on the cake for me," says McGee.

An official release has not yet been made, but McGee says permits for the store were requested a while back.

Calls were made to Northpark Mall for comment, but our calls have not yet been returned.
