LA man is first active duty airman laid to rest at Biloxi National Cemetery for 2014

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The first active duty airman was laid to rest at the Biloxi National Cemetery Wednesday. This marks the first active duty airman burial of the year at the Biloxi National Cemetery.

Although Staff Sergeant Joseph Emmanuel Anderson made three deployments in Iraq, he didn't die overseas. Instead he was murdered in his home state of Louisiana.

A rifle team salutes 31-year-old Anderson at his funeral at the Biloxi National Cemetery.

He was murdered New Year's night while on holiday leave back home in Marrero, Louisiana. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, Anderson was reportedly gunned down on a relative's driveway during an apparent carjacking.

Officials say the next day someone called authorities about his vehicle after seeing a description of it on local news. Anderson's Toyota 4-Runner was found just two miles from the murder scene.

Understandably no one wanted to talk on camera during Anderson's funeral however; many say that he was a loving father and husband.

An airman playing "Taps" on a bugle was the final salute to a man in uniform, a life gone too soon.

Still authorities have not identified who the suspects are. Anyone with information about the murder of Anderson is asked to call the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office at 504-364-5300.
