Man charged with impersonating an officer in Mendenhall

SIMPSON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A man is charged with impersonating a police officer. He's been arrested in Simpson County.

Authorities tell us Robert "Bobby" Abbott works as a process server for at least one jurisdiction, but he is not a sworn police officer.

Three men filed affidavits against him for incidents on two different occasions in early January at a pool hall in Mendenhall. They say Abbott identified himself as a "cop". One man said Abbott flashed a badge, snatched his phone and began looking through his contacts. Another says Abbott threatened him if he lied to a police officer. Yet another says he was pushed by Abbott.

Abbott turned himself in Wednesday with his attorney, and posted $240 bond, according to Sheriff Kenneth Lewis.
