Hinds County schools powerless to avoid dismissing early

HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

On Monday, the Hinds County School district was forced to dismiss two schools early due to a power outage in the area.

At first Entergy indicated power would be restored to Raymond Elementary School and Carver Middle School around 11:45 a.m.

When the schools found out it would be later, he decision was made to dismiss the two schools early. 

Raymond Elementary was released at 2:00p.m. and Carver Middle was released at 2:30p.m.

The school district released a statement saying: "Please know that our primary concern is for the safety of our students and staff. At this time, power has been restored at both schools and we thank our parents and employees for their support during this emergency.
 
As we continue to experience the inclement weather season, please stay updated through our website and area news channels as we will work to have information released as soon as possible. 

 

We hope for a safe trip home and return of all of our hinds county school district students and staff tomorrow."
