Local group helps homeless prepare for frigid temperatures

Posted: Updated:
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Most of us are lucky enough to have a warm home to go to when the cold weather comes. But for those who don't one local organization making sure homeless citizens stay warm during this cold snap.

They are called Help the Homeless Veterans and Citizens. The organizer said they are just doing what they can to help their fellow man survive this winter.

Sunday, the group was in tent city in Huntsville. It's right off of Derrick Street. That's where a lot of the homeless citizens set up their tents. The group's founder, Rusty Loiselle said the homeless shelters are full, so he does what he can to try and make the people at tent city comfortable. All of the things they get like food, blankets, clothes and water are donations. So once a week they go out to deliver the items.

"We just try to make their lives a little less miserable because we are cold, but they are out here all the time and it's going to be frigid these next couple of nights," Loiselle.
