City of Jackson repairs Belhaven sewer problem

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The latest problem with infrastructure in Jackson was near the corner of Poplar Boulevard and Lyncrest Avenue in Belhaven.

We got a call from Sarah Berry about a problem with sewage backing up in her back yard. When we got on the scene we found crews from the city of Jackson working to try to solve the problem. But, Berry was still happy to see us.

"I feel better about it now, now that it is going to lead to a solution," said Berry. "I think it (3 on your Side) brings some attention to the problems and hopefully leads to a solution."

Willie Bell, Interim Public Works Director in Jackson, personally came out to the scene to talk with us about the source of the problem.

"We have a collapsed sewer line," said Bell. "And what happened, the lady that is complaining, she is on the low end, so when it collapsed on this end, it backed up on her side. The bottom line is it's gonna get fixed and it's gonna get fixed today."

Bell indicated the city was going to try to fix problems like these all over the city. It develops that the pipe that crumbled was made of clay and had probably been there 70 or 80 years.

Bell said when you have a problem with pipes, always call the city before you call a plumber.
