GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A Gulfport man spent the New Year in jail after being arrested on December 27 and charged with cultivation and possession of marijuana.

Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania said officers were called to the home of Steven Ray Schreider, 56, to investigate a suspicious open door. Schreider was not home when authorities checked the house and found marijuana inside.

The Gulfport Police Department Narcotics Division returned to the house with a warrant where Sergeant Damon McDaniel said an elaborate grow house was discovered.

"It was a normal house with a few rooms that had growing stuff in them," said McDaniel.

Schreider is currently being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $10,000 bond.
