GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A Gulfport man spent the first night of the new year in jail, charged with burglarizing vehicles. According to authorities, James Wesley Tate Jr., 33, was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary of a vehicle on Wednesday.

Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania said police responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress at a residence on Georgia Street. When officers arrived, Tate was gone, but it didn't take long for police to find and arrest him.

Tate was charged with the crime on Georgia Street, but further investigation led police to believe that Tate had broken into another vehicle in the area resulting in a second charge.

Tate is currently being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $30,000 bond.
