OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Anders Julian Gladden is the Coast's first baby of 2014 but his mother wouldn't exactly describe him as a "little" fellow. Anders came into the world a few minutes after midnight weighing in at 10 pounds and two ounces as a natural birth. His mother said compared to her last pregnancy, delivering him was a piece of cake.
Jason and Jennifer Gladden beamed with pride as they looked down on their newborn son. They arrived at Ocean Springs Hospital on New Year's Eve ready to welcome what doctors had told them would be a eight pound baby boy.
"We go here last night around 11:30 am and he was born at 12:04 pm," said Jennifer Gladden. "So it was really fast. Whenever I was getting ready to push to push the doctor said 'He's a really big boy.'"
Jennifer Gladden said, "When they said 10 pounds I was really blown away. I didn't realize there were babies that were 10 pounds."
Family members including a grandma who flew in from North Carolina couldn't wait to shower the baby with love. His parents say they chose his name Anders Julian to reflect their close knit family.
"My sister lives close by and we're really close," said Jason Gladden. "Her name is Julie so his middle name is Julian."
This wasn't the Ocean Springs couple's first experience in the delivery room. Last time around Jennifer Gladden gave birth to twins, Garrison and William.
"With our twins, with William and Garrison it was stressful having two infants and trying to learn how to nurse two babies," said Jennifer Gladden. "Now with one this is a piece of cake you know. This is relaxing. It's almost like a day at the spa here. "
With a newborn baby and 28 month old twins, the Gladdens know family life is going to be a busy life and they're excited.
"Our twins are only two and a half so they're going to be close and all boys. So I think it's going to be a neat chemistry of three little boys in the house," said Jennifer Gladden. "Our twins are just awesome and so much fun. I just feel like this will add more love to the family."
Jennifer Gladden said she was worried when she went into labor and her doctor was out of town but everything turned out fine thanks the nurses and staff at Ocean Springs hospital.
