Mystery surrounds attack of elderly Southaven woman

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHAVEN, MS -

(WMC-TV) – Southaven police have a mystery on their hands. An 86-year-old woman with injuries that suggest she was brutally beaten. The pictures are shocking, but investigators can't assume anything because the victim is unable to help them solve the case.

Neighbor Mike McGregor said, "We're all in shock; we just can't believe this happened."

McGregor fears his long time friend and neighbor is the victim of a violent crime.

"She is such a sweet lady and for something like this to happen to her, it's just tragic," he said.

McGregor says 86-year-old Georgia McKee was hospitalized with cuts and bruises all over her face and neck.

Her 2003 Silver Chevy Impala is missing from her home in Southaven's Garden Walk subdivision. When friends visited McKee in the hospital and saw her painful injuries they assumed she was attacked and robbed, but there's a problem.

"She has no recollection of what happened," Southaven Police Detective Mark Little said.

McKee doesn't remember when or where it all happened.

Detective Little said, "There was no forced entry, there was no evidence of somebody looking through her belongings."

He hopes someone will spot the missing vehicle with the Mississippi disabled veteran's tag E271D.

He said, "And hopefully once we do locate it, that will lead us to more information as to what happened."

McGregor says, "I hope they can find them, pretty soon.">

McGregor wonders if McKee was attacked in her sleep, because he says even at 86 she's very alert and active.

"As a manager of a bluegrass group, just a wonderful human being a wonderful person and she doesn't deserve this at all," said McGregor.

McKee has been released from the hospital.

Her car had a Delta Bluegrass magnet on the outside door panel. Friends say even if that's been removed there should be a mark where it used to be.

Police are looking for a silver 2003 Chevrolet Impala with a Mississippi Handicap tag of E271D. There is also a "Delta Blues" sign on the passenger door.

If anyone has any information about this crime, you're asked to contact the Desoto County Crime Stoppers at (662) 429-8477.
