Gautier police mourn the loss of Rocko

Posted: Updated:
GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

This news comes from the Gautier Police Department.  Rocko has passed away.

Rocko is the K9 police dog that joined the force in 2007.  Back then, Jada Edwards and Councilman Hurley Ray Guillote sought help from the community in the form of donations to purchase Rocko for $12,500.

In recent months, Rocko developed an aggressive cancer requiring the K9 to be euthanized.

Rocko was trained and certified in narcotics detection, tracking, suspect search, evidence search, obedience, agility (obstacle course), criminal apprehension and handler protection.

Rocko was certified through the United States Police K9 Association. In this annual national standard qualification, Rocko won first place in evidence search and third place in obedience; besting sixty other Police K9s.
