Margaritaville hotel just part of casino's renovation

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

More information is becoming known Wednesday morning about major expansion plans announced for Margaritaville casino in Biloxi.

The official announcement was made in the casino's event center at 12:01 Wednesday morning to celebrate the New Year.

The expansion totals $50 million and includes a new 250 room hotel tower, new buffet, a newly revamped casino floor as well as improvements to the casino's marina.

Also included in the expansion is a new pool and pool bar area on the bayfront side of the casino. President and general manager Doug Shipley says this will be a major game changer for both the casino and the Mississippi Gulf Coast gaming market.

Meanwhile, long time employees say they are elated about the prospects involved with the expansion. While $50,000,000 is being spent on the improvements, it also means more jobs.

Shipley says about 100 additional workers will be hired to man the hotel and other amenities. Construction on the hotel should begin later this spring and take about a year to complete.

Doug Walker is covering the story and will have more details later on WLOX News and on WLOX.COM.
