LOS ANGELES (JUNE EMERSON/CNN) – A photo attributed to a Los Angeles beachgoer looks like a scene from Jaws.

Except the shadowy figure that appeared to be lurking in the wave near children was not the infamous sea creature of film lore.

Many media outlets initially called it a shark, but instead it is the silhouette of a dolphin, according to shark expert David "Why Sharks Matter" Shiffman.

Shiffman said the tail on the creature is flat, indicating it's a dolphin. Meanwhile, a Discovery Channel shark expert told CNN that it was a juvenile great white shark.

June Emerson, the woman who claimed to have taken the photo, said it was a shock to her son and his three friends who were in the water at the time.

She said no one noticed the photobomber until they looked at the pictures later.
