Local firework retailers gear up for New Years rush

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

As the year winds down, local firework stands gear up for a big boost in business.

It's the perfect way to start your New Year off with a pop, crackle and bang. Fireworks are a staple in every New Years Eve celebration.

"We have been busy, most of the customers and that's what's so fun about working a fireworks stand," said owner of Lawless Fireworks Trudy Biggs.

On the coast, it's a quick turnaround from Christmas tree stand to a firework stand. That really helps people get pumped up for the big night.

Here at Lawless Fireworks on Canal road in Gulfport, retailers have seen a steady stream of pyro-fans swarming in and out of their tent.

"We have our regular customers who come in and get what they get and we have good prices on everything and we'll help you anyway we can," said Biggs.

With everything from assortment packets to ariel shooters, people continue to pack the location looking for the best bang for their buck.

The prices will either blow your mind, or make your bank account explode. Fireworks range in price from mere dollars to hundreds.

Everyone has a childhood memory of sparklers and bottle-rockets. They are the traditional favorites and still remain the best sellers. The workers at Lawless still stock up on some more unconventional explosives.

Fireworks during New Years are generally larger and louder than the ones blown up in the summer. It's a perfect way to celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another with all of your family and friends.
