Big rig driver charged with DUI after blocking Hwy 90

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A Texas man is charged with DUI after his 18-wheeler jackknifed on Highway 90 Friday night near Kelly Avenue in Gulfport.

Gulfport Police said the driver, James Brett Karstedt, 41, of Canyon Lake, TX, was attempting to make a U-turn and got stuck. It happened just before 7pm, and caused a traffic nightmare for drivers. The big rig had to be towed from the scene.

Karstedt is charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Improper Turn, and Obstructing Traffic. He's being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention

Center in lieu of a $1,300 bond for DUI, a $188 bond for Improper Turn, and a $233 bond for Obstructing Traffic. All bonds were set by the City of Gulfport Municipal Court.
