Funeral service held for slain police officer

TUPELO, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Tupelo Police Officer, who died in the line of duty, was laid to rest Friday. Family, friends and fellow officers gathered at First United Methodist Church to pay their final respects to Sergeant Gale Stauffer.

He was one of two officers shot while responding to a bank robbery Monday.

Following the memorial service, the procession filed past Stauffer's home before heading to Tupelo Memorial Park for burial services.

Stauffer also served a tour of duty in Iraq with the Louisiana Army National Guard. Governor Phil Bryant proclaimed today an official day of mourning for Stauffer.

If you take a stroll on the beach, chances are you might need to watch your step and it isn't because of the sea shells. A strong onshore wind has been pushing large jellyfish to the shore. These bigger jellyfish are called cannon ball jellyfish. Luckily, these jellyfish do not sting, but we may see more stinging jellys sooner than usual.
