AMITE COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A McComb man is being held in a Louisiana jail on $250,000 bond following a two-state crime spree.

Dennis Jerrell Morgan of McComb is being held on two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cocaine. He was arraigned in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana Friday morning. Additional charges are possible

Morgan fired at two Gloster police officers Thursday and then stole a police car. He crashed the police car and carjacked another vehicle.

Mississippi Highway Patrol units were in the area, and chased the vehicle into Louisiana. The suspect crashed in the woods and fired at the pursuing troopers, but was arrested without injury.

MBI agents are investigating the shooting in Gloster and the carjacking in Amite County. Morgan is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a police officer, grand larceny, carjacking, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony fleeing.

Morgan is also facing charges in McComb. Police say He broke into a woman's home around 12:45 Thursday morning. After threatening her two children with a gun, he kidnapped the woman and took her car.

The woman was able to escape about three blocks from her house and called police.

McComb Police detective Robert Holmes says the Mississippi Department of Corrections had warrants out for Morgan.
