The reward to find the people who robbed a Tupelo bank and killed an officer is now up to $142,000.

That's after local businesses contacted the city to add more money to the $50,000 offered by the FBI and the $50,000 offered by BancorpSouth Bank.

The city has asked that all flags be flown at half staff in honor of 38-year-old Police Sgt. Gale Stauffer, who was killed, Monday, in the line of duty.

He and another officer were shot responding to a robbery in the 400 block of S. Gloster Street while responding to the robbery at BancorpSouth Gloster Creek Village branch.

The other officer remains in critical and guarded condition.

"This is a day that no family, no law enforcement agency or city wants to endure," said Tupelo's Mayor Jason Shelton.

Visitation has been scheduled for Stauffer, from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church on West Main Street in Tupelo.

There's also a candlelight vigil to honor Stauffer and the other, injured officer scheduled for Christmas evening around 5:00, around the Christmas tree in Fairpark.

Authorities say there were multiple suspects who fled the scene heading east. One may have been injured in the gunfight.

Investigators have released video showing a charcoal-colored sedan, possibly a Dodge Stratus, believed to be involved in the crime.

They believe this could be a rental car, and that it may have sustained some damage from gunshots.

Authorities are looking for a thin male suspect between 5'9″ and six feet tall, with light complexion and possibly African-American.

He was last seen wearing khaki or cargo-style pants, white Converse tennis shoes, a long-sleeved jacket and a blue ski mask.

NEW TODAY: The chief of police in New Albany, MS says they are assisting the FBI, MBI, and US Marshall's service in evidence recovery possibly related to the robbery.

Authorities have set up a perimeter in one neighborhood and are interviewing some people of interest in regards to a car that fits the description of the one at the scene of the crime.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi at (800) 773-TIPS.
