Holiday storms can't keep last minute shoppers away

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - With just three days left before Christmas, hundreds of gift seekers were hitting the malls Sunday searching for those holiday presents.

From Edgewater Mall to the Gulfport Premium Outlets, the storms didn't keep the crowds away.

"It's the last weekend before Christmas," said Marketing Director at the Gulfport Premium Outlets Rhonda Roberts.

"So, a lot of people have to get out and shop and for us at Gulfport Premium Outlets, this is some of our best sales. So a lot of the stores are 40 percent, 50 percent even 60 percent off."

Some were just starting their search.

"Nowhere near done, like 25 percent maybe," said Jaidee Hebert.

While others, like Jacqueline Nelson, were wrapping up.

"I did most of my shopping back in Idaho. Now, we're just getting closer family gift here," said Idaho native Nelson.

Still, some didn't come seeking gifts.

"We came to see Santa Claus," said 8-year-old Ainsley-Kate Thriffiley.

"We're out eating with family after church," said 20-year-old Maggie Fletcher.

While the Thriffileys got to see ole' Saint Nick, others said they were naughty and shopping procrastination is an annual occurrence.

"Yes, every year," said 25-year-old Allison Noto.

"This is actually a lot better than what I usually do."

Whether people were out seeking those last minute gifts, finding a good meal or even searching for Santa Claus, everyone had the same well wishes for people this holiday season.

"Have a very merry Christmas and a happy and safe new year," said Fletcher.

"Merry Christmas to everybody, remember the reason for the season," said Jim Thriffiley.
