Holiday storms rain on Christmas cheer

Posted: Updated:
BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Dozen of power outages, heavy rainfall and flooded roads dampen the holiday spirit Sunday morning.

Just before 7 a.m. Mississippi Power reported 75 power outages in Waveland, 50 in Long Beach and 40 in Biloxi.

And the rain doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon.

Because of that, Harrison County Emergency Management Director Rupert Lacy advises everyone to stay indoors.

"If you don't need to be out, don't go out," said Lacy.

Lacy says right now, Harrison County officials have not closed off any flooded roads; however, there are a lot of roads that are challenging to drive.

"Drive slowly, use headlights," said Lacy. "Take extra time to where you're going."

Lacy says the heavy stuff will be breaking up by afternoon. Until then, he says, be careful.

WLOX crews will be covering the storms throughout the day.
