Hundreds gather to honor Zach McClendon

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Family, friends, former teachers and classmates gathered to honor the life of a Gulfport man considered by many as motivated, intelligent and most of all someone who cared about helping people.

This afternoon 25-year-old Zach McClendon's funeral was held at Pass Road Baptist Church in Gulfport.

Hundreds came out to attend the visitation and funeral including former Gulfport Mayor George Schlogel.

As each person lined up to pay their respects they talked about what an outstanding person Zach was in the academic world and how much time he spent helping others. One of Zach's former classmates says Zach was the best person he's ever met in his life. Other former classmates echoed those words.

"I mean I love you," said friend and former classmate Annie Henderson.

"I mean, we've always been friends. It's very hard. I mean I still can't believe that he's gone."

Zach was murdered in his duplex just outside Oxford on Tuesday. Three suspects accused of murdering him are behind bars, charged with capital murder.

Zach was working towards his second masters degree an MBA at Ole Miss and was recently accepted into medical school in Jackson.
