MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Market Commons's plans for a "Southern Times Square" have been approved by the city.

Below is the official announcement and schedule for The Market Common's upcoming New Year's Eve celebration:

A SOUTHERN TIMES SQUARE

At The Market Common

Where: Corner of Reed and Deville (In front of Grand 14 Theater

When: Tuesday, December 31st 7 pm to Midnight

What: A Fantabulous New Year's Count Down

• Live Feed on Huge Outdoor Movie Screen from Times Square in NYC

• Live Music

• Wine and Beer by Travinia

• Food, Popcorn and Cotton Candy

• Golf Cart parade *

How much fun:

• Stilt Walkers

• Photo Booth

• Magician

• Face Painter

• Flame thrower

• Fire eater

How much: Admission is free.

*Entry to Golf Cart parade is limited to residents on the Old Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. Must sign up to enter. Cash prizes. Sign up at The Market Common Management Office

New Year's Eve Schedule:

7:00 PM - 7:30 PM Golf Cart Parade

7:00 PM - 10:00 PM Face Painter (Located in front of Barnes & Noble) / Carriage Rides

8:00 PM - 11:00 PM Magician / Flame Dancers (Howard & Reed) / Photo Booth (Bijuju's) / Stilt Walkers

8:00 PM - 11:45 PM The Sugarbees (Stage on the corner of Reed & Devile St.)

11:45 PM - Midnight Times Square Feed / Mayor John Rhodes will do the countdown.

    At 7:30 Wednesday morning, Ocean Springs city workers stepped up to the city hall flag pole. They hooked Mississippi's state flag underneath the American flag, and they raised both flags over the city hall grounds. And just like that, five days of debate over whether the state flag should fly in Ocean Springs temporarily came to an end.

    The father and son charged with killing Philip Whitaker will make their initial appearance in court Wednesday. A court clerk says Carl and Terry Smith will be in Hancock County Justice Court sometime today. Hancock County Sheriff’s Department investigators arrested Terry Smith and his son, Carl Smith Tuesday after questioning them about Whitaker's shooting death.
