Henderson police chief resigns

After his sudden resignation, 14 News has learned Henderson's Police Chief is heading back to Louisville.

City Commissioner Tom Davis says Chief John Reed is returning to where he worked before to pursue job options there.

Reed was mentioned as a potential candidate for Louisville police chief when that job opened up a couple years ago. There's no word yet on if he's going back to Louisville to work in law enforcement or to take a different path.

Henderson Mayor Steve Austin confirmed Wednesday morning that Reed had resigned. He had been Henderson's chief since 2007. Before that, he worked for 27 years with Louisville Metro Police.

Davis says Reed's last day will be December 29, but he will be paid through January 31 through paid time off.

Reed has not returned our multiple calls for comment.

We're told that Henderson city leaders are expected to meet on Thursday to discuss an interim replacement for Reed.
