Woman arrested after infant's burned body found in a metal barrel

A woman has been arrested on Murder charges in connection with the death of a south Mississippi infant.

An investigation by Mississippi Bureau of Investigation agents and Crime Scene Unit forensic technicians in collaboration with the Marion County Sheriff's Department led to the arrest of 26-year-old Sasha S. Stokes.

Stokes has been charged with murder.

The child's burned body was recovered from a large metal barrel on Arthur B. Johnson Lane in Columbia shortly after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.

The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office where an autopsy will be performed.

Stokes is being held in the Marion County Detention Facility awaiting her initial court appearance.
