GEORGE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Investigators in George County are trying to identify skeletal remains found by hunters Sunday morning. It's not clear how long ago the person died. But based on the clothing, they said, the victim appears to be a man.
Many in George County are wondering if this could be Donovan Cowart, who has been missing since January 2013. Earlier this month, Cowart's family spoke to WLOX News about their missing loved one, and asked for the public's help finding him.
At that time, George County Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Pharez said investigators kept getting a reoccurring tip that Cowart was dead and possibly buried in George County, or the Mobile area. But no evidence was ever found to back it up.
For now, officials are not speculating on the victim's identity. The remains have been taken to the Mississippi Crime Lab for forensic and DNA analysis.
