Hinds County missing out on millions in uncollected fees

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hinds County is missing out on millions of dollars annually in uncollected 911 fees.

Supervisor Peggy Hobson-Calhoun brought up the issue during the board meeting Monday morning. She says preliminary reports show that the county could be collecting on 800,000 residential and business lines, but it's only collecting on 230,000.

An audit reveals that, with an aggressive approach, the county could collect $200,000 more per month, and $2.4 million more per year in revenue.

"Pursuing both the $2.4, ongoing revenues, and the $4.8 in 2014, then we can generate a total of $7.2 million dollars," Calhoun says.

The Board voted unanimously to move ahead with the measure.
