Owensboro pizza shop celebrates 50 years

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

The holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year for Tri-State business and restaurants.

No one knows that better than the folks at PizzAroma in Owensboro.

On Sunday, they celebrated 50 years of business in a very special way.

It was a packed house in the dining room as former employees, customers, friends and family piled in to celebrate the restaurant's 50th birthday, and to thank the man who made it all possible.

Bob Leucht, 81, opened PizzAroma in 1963. Both he and the restaurant are still going strong.

Bob said he started the business with a friend out of desperation. The first few years were tough, but as time went on things started to pick up.

"Our intent was, of course like all small business starting out, to make a living," said Bob. "It has far exceeded that."

For Bob and his employees, past and present, PizzAroma is more than just a job.

It's about being a part of history and making an impact on the community the best way they know how - taking care of the customer.

Bob said he hopes and expects PizzAroma will be celebrating again in another 50 years.
