PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

A preliminary hearing has been set for a Prattville man charged with murder in a fatal shooting.

Joseph Allen Nolin, 23, made his first appearance in Autauga County Friday afternoon before Judge Joy Booth.

Around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Prattville police responded to a call of a subject being shot at 108 Morris Cir.

Upon arrival police found 23-year-old Robert Keith Nichols unresponsive with an apparent gunshot to the face. He died at the scene.

During their investigation, police say they determined that Nolin had fired the shot that resulted in Nichols' death and he was arrested and charged with murder.

At his court appearance Friday, Judge Booth set Nolin's preliminary hearing for Dec. 30 at 10 a.m. She also raised his bond from $75,000 to $150,000 after Nolin admitted to her that he uses marijuana every day.

"There are some issues with you in my opinion that cause me to believe that you are a danger to the community," she told him.

Prattville police detectives and Chief Mark Thompson were still out at the scene of the fatal shooting Friday afternoon. Chief Thompson told WSFA that a motive in the fatal incident is unknown.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. Authorities have not released any further information about the relationship, if any, between the victim and suspect.
