NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police have found a 70-year-old man with dementia who was missing most of Thursday.

Police said that Thomas Lee Mason was found in the crawl space beneath his caretaker's home on Monticello Drive.

Police did not know whether Mason had been there the entire time or had recently returned.

Mason appeared to be OK, according to police. An ambulance was called to the scene to check on Mason's condition.

Mason, who shares a home with his sister, left his home on the 1200 block of North Avondale Circle around 7:30 a.m.

Police searched most of the day for Mason, but suspended the search shortly after dark after taking exhaustive efforts to find the man. Police searched by air, with search dogs, patrol and on ATVs in an effort to find Mason.

Mason's sister says he has not taken his dementia medication or eaten this morning. He is not wearing a coat.

"He doesn't have any money on him and he doesn't have a coat on," said Mailene Offutt, Mason's sister. "I'm just concerned that he hadn't took his medicine this morning. He hadn't ate anything."

Family members said he had walked off before but has never been gone this long. They said he likes to walk but is usually accompanied by a family member.

Mason's sister says they have an older brother, George, who went missing in 1987. He was never found.
