HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The next St. Jude Dream Home will be like no other St. Jude house in South Mississippi. It will come with various high-tech gadgets to make life a lot more convenient. The house will be given away in a drawing next spring. You could own the "smart house" and help children who are battling cancer and other illnesses.
"Say you're at your house or at work and you want to go ahead and turn down your AC or turn up your AC, or look at your camera to see if your kids are home from school. All of that and it's all controllable via your cell phone," said Jessica Nellums, HIT Sales and Project Management.
The 2,500 square-foot house at Tradition will be the first St. Jude Dream Home in South Mississippi to have the Home Automation System. Haynes Integrated Technologies of Gulfport will install the system. The house will also have intercoms for room-to-room conversations, and in-ceiling speakers so you can listen to your favorite music throughout the house.
"We just saw how it would add value to the house, and that's the whole purpose of this is to add value and to make the house worth as much as possible to give back to St. Jude," said Nellums.
SunCoast Contractors Supply of Long Beach also donated all the building materials, including storm resistant and energy-efficient doors and windows.
"I'm part of a company that really believed in the cause, and the cause is to help children. So no matter what the contribution is big or small, it all goes to the same place and they do amazing, miraculous things with the funding," said Beatrice Petrozzino, SunCoast Office Manager.
So for $100, you will get a chance to win the "smart house" and know that you can help St. Jude with research and treatment of very sick children.
"We're a local company and this is our community and there's not really a more worthy cause," said Nellums.
The two-story house is located at the corner of Carrolton and Village Avenue at Tradition. It has three bedrooms and 2.5 baths.
A limited number of tickets will go on sale in February. The drawing will be held in April.
