ODOT planning another I-75 widening

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Another stretch of Interstate 75 is set to be widened in the next few years. It's also a stretch that could provide some difficulty for ODOT crews.

The widening of 75 in both directions from South Avenue to Dorr Street is set to begin in 2016 and take two years to complete. It's a $107 million project that is all part of a larger, much-needed widening project.

"It's definitely necessary," said ODOT Spokesperson Theresa Pollick. "If you've traveled through the area, many drivers are well-aware of the current state of these bridges and the fact that we have a large number of potholes and have had for the past several years. So this project is extremely necessary, not only for that component, but of course number one, safety."

Better entrances to and from the Anthony Wayne Trail are being proposed, as well as ramp improvements and work on numerous bridges.

"A lot of I-75 in this area is a bridge, so we have to look at replacing those bridge structures along the Anthony Wayne Trail," Pollick said. "We want to make sure that we can make I-75 in this area safer for all who travel on it."

The project would be much like the widening of I-75 from Lagrange Street to I-280. Completed over the next 4-5 years, the projects are meant to improve safety and overall traffic congestion in the area.

The public can send comments on the project to the ODOT offices in Bowling Green by Dec. 24.

Mississippi’s giant house party might not have the fanfare of 2016. But, it’s still a must visit event for families across the magnolia state. This year is not a political year in Mississippi. So, the political stumping is not nearly as significant as it can be. Yet, this Wednesday and Thursday, people will gather under the pavilion at Founders Square and listen to a series of speeches from Mississippi’s elected leaders.
