D'Iberville opens new senior living center

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

Riverside Senior Living is officially open. Tuesday, they cut the ribbon in front of the 117-unit-complex designed specifically to provide affordable senior living. Riverside, which is located in D'Iberville, gets its name because it overlooks the Tchoutacabouffa River. The 55 and up community is a welcomed site to many.

"Well this is just another opportunity to compliment all the amenities that we have here in D'Iberville, Harrison County and South Mississippi for that matter," said District One Supervisor, Windy Swetman.

Affordable senior living is one of the latest types of facilities to be rebuilt since HHurricane Katrina. Brent Christensen, who is Executive Director of Mississippi Development Authority, adds this is one of the 40,000 residential units that have been restored since the storm.

"Here's an opportunity here at Riverside to show folks the fruits of those labors of that need that are being fulfilled by Riverside," said Christensen.

MDA helped to fund the project along with Coast Development Block Grant money, and private partners like Gulf Coast Renaissance Corporation.

"The majority partner had stepped out and they needed someone to kind of step in and fill that role and so Renaissance having the CDBG experience, having run the "My Home, My Coast" program, stepped in more of an administrative type role," said CEO of Renaissance, Kimberley LaRosa.

She believes with people living longer, we are going to need more housing like this, and with such nice amenities, it shouldn't be hard to find residents. Riverside offers an outdoor saltwater pool, fishing and a walking trail around the river. Each unit also has a kitchen with granite countertops and washer and dryer units.
