BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Baseball fans in Huntsville, Alabama and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast have been buzzing following a tweet that said the owner of the Huntsville Stars has agreed to relocate to Biloxi. Though it's been speculated that the Huntsville team is the one headed to Biloxi, there's no confirmation beyond the Twitter buzz.
WLOX Sports Director AJ Giardina has confirmed that Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant attended the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in Orlando this week. Our sources said Bryant and Tim Bennett met with various baseball officials in an effort to negotiate a contract for a team.
The Mayor of Huntsville told WAFF-TV in Huntsville that the Stars have a contract that runs through the 2015 season and he expects the team to honor the contract.
If a deal is secured, the Stars wouldn't move to Biloxi until 2015.
Plans to build a new stadium are moving forward, though Tuesday afternoon, the Biloxi City Council tabled a land use measure dealing with the stadium.
