Longview to dedicate transit facility in honor of late councilwoman

LONGVIEW, TX -  The City of Longview will host a dedication ceremony for the naming of Sidney Bell Willis Transit Facility in honor of the late City Councilwoman. The ceremony will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, December 12, at 908 Pacific Ave.

Sidney Bell Willis served three terms as the City Council representative for District 3 from 2002 – 2011. Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Willis was an advocate for the development of Longview's public transportation system. Ms. Willis received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Stephen F. Austin University. A life-long Longview resident, she worked forty-three years as a music teacher for Longview Independent School District.

Longview Transit began operation in 2003 and is the designated urban (city) public transportation provider in the Longview Texas area offering fixed route and para transit services. The Sidney Bell Willis Transit Facility houses the administrative operations of Longview Transit and is also home to the local Greyhound Bus Lines. The building is located across from the Longview Train Depot and is part of Longview's multi-modal transportation center.

    Officials with the Mississippi Department of Transportation said the damage is still being assessed, and it's possible the bridge will have to be replaced before it can reopen.
