MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

Police in Midland say four people have been arrested in connection to the theft of $5,000 in goods, including two shopping carts, from the Kohl's retail store in Midland.

Authorities said the theft happened around 2 p.m. on Monday at the Joe Mann Boulevard location. Investigators said the four, all from Flint, walked out of the store with two shopping carts full of merchandise without paying a dime.

Store security had been surveying the group and called 911 when the four piled into a Chevrolet Trailblazer and fled the scene towards U.S. 10.

The vehicle was pulled over on the highway not far from the Bay City Road exit and the suspects were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Charges are still pending against the four in the theft, which the suspects told investigators were to be used as Christmas gifts.

When police inventoried the stolen goods, they said they found jeans, sweaters, jackets, sweatshirts, hats, shoes, video games, touch screen tablets, and two video game systems.

Midland police said they believe the group may be lined to other retail thefts in at least two other counties. They're currently lodged in the Midland County Jail.

When the WLOX First Alert Weather Team issues an Alert Day for South Mississippi, it is because we believe the  weather will impact your day. The current Alert Day is because of the high rainfall totals we have seen with the potential for more rain. In fact, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Tuesday evening.
