JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Bull fighting, a sport famous in Spain, Latin America and Mexico, was enjoyed by Mississippi audiences Saturday night.

A small crowd attended the event at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center.

Professional matadors showed off their skills performing various maneuvers to manipulate the bull in the ring.

The matadors risk being gored or trampled in this sport.

The exhibition was described as humane, because the animals were not killed.

At the end of traditional bull fighting, the bull is killed in the arena.

This was the first public bullfighting exhibition held in the state.

Several demonstrators protested outside the event.
