Wingfield student present when 15-year-old fatally shot speaks out

A Wingfield High school student spoke exclusively to WLBT about what she saw just before and after 15 year-old Destinee Ford was shot and killed Thursday afternoon.

A Wingfield student who wants to remain anonymous said she's still shaken up after witnessing the shooting of Destinee Ford. She says she just saw Destinee before shots rang out.

"I was just talking to her that Thursday after school when we were walking up there to go home and stuff," said the Wingfield student.

The Wingfield witness didn't think the fight that broke out on the corner of Anna Lisa Lane and Castle Hill Drive would go from punches to police tape.

"It was four boys, they had four guns only two was shooting, one was shooting in the air and the other one was shooting and he was the one that shot Destinee," said the teen.

The high school student said she's not sure if she could pinpoint who shot her schoolmate.

When asked if she would you be able to identify any of the guys involved in the fight, the witness replied,  "I don't know because I wasn't trying to see who had a gun," the witness responded.

It took JPD only a matter of hours to arrest 18-year-olds Dennis Pickett and Demonte Finch.

Both Finch and Pickett are charged with murder as adults in connection to the fight that led to Destinee's death. Destinee was shot once in the chest and her classmate said she was right there when Destinee collapsed to the ground.

"I tried to help her, but I was so scared I didn't know what to do I just grabbed her hand."
