PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Officials with the Pascagoula Police Department have released information about the incident that caused Cherokee Elementary School to go into lock down Thursday afternoon.

Captain James DeShannon Massey said police have arrested Edward DeWayne White, 35, and charged him with simple assault, 2nd offense domestic violence and resisting arrest by fleeing.

Authorities responded to a reported female stabbing victim on Brazil Street in Pascagoula around 10:30 a.m. When officers arrived on scene, White allegedly fled the area on foot. Pascagoula K-9, Rambo, was called in and tracked White to the back area of Stewart Apartments where he was taken into custody.

Due to the incident being so close to Cherokee Elementary, the school district chose to put the school into lock down. Authorities said that at no time did White actually get onto school property.

The victim was later released from the emergency room after suffering only minor injuries from the alleged stabbing.
