MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) -

According to officials with the Pascagoula Police Department, a train collided with a vehicle that was stopped on the tracks Thursday morning in Moss Point.

Terry Scott with the Pascagoula Police Department Traffic Division said that the wreck happened at the intersection of Industrial Road and Denny Avenue at 10 a.m. Scott said the driver of the vehicle was Richard McGovern, 84, of Moss Point.

Malissia Hearndon, a witness at the scene, told authorities she was the vehicle stopped in front of McGovern at the traffic light of the intersection.

Hearndon said when she heard the train coming, she and the vehicles in front of her began to inch forward to give McGovern room to move off the tracks. Authorities said as McGovern was attempting to pull forward, the train struck his vehicle in the driver side rear quarter panel, and spun the car around.

Acadian Ambulance transported McGovern to Singing River Emergency Room for precautionary evaluation. Scott said McGovern did not appear injured, and should be released from the emergency room soon.
