Nearby search forces lockdown at Cherokee Elementary

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Breaking news in Pascagoula.  Cherokee Elementary School in Pascagoula is on lockdown at this moment as a safety precaution as police investigate an incident nearby.  WLOX News Jackson County Bureau Chief Patrice Clark is at the school right now, inside a classroom where she reports the students are following the lockdown procedure.

Pascagoula police tell us they are investigating an incident on Brazil Street across from the school.  Details of the incident have not been released, but police confirm an ambulance has been called for someone.

WLOX News will update this developing story as new information comes in..

But again, the students at Cherokee Elementary school are safe.  Nothing has happened at the school.  But, officials are simply following their emergency policies to ensure the safety of everyone.
