Gulfport woman charged with three counts of attempted murder

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A Gulfport woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of attempted murder after she allegedly shot a pregnant woman. According to Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania, Sangrea Desmon Hightower, 36, was a suspect in a November 9 shooting at Maison Dedeaux Apartments in Gulfport.

According to authorities, an argument at the complex led to Hightower shooting an unknown caliber handgun multiple times into an occupied vehicle and fleeing the scene. Officials said the occupant was a pregnant woman who was shot in the head and sustained severe injuries.

After an investigation, a warrant was issued for Hightower's arrest with bond set at $3 million.

According to Papania, Hightower was located by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force in Fulton County, GA. She was later extradited back to Gulfport.

Hightower is currently being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $3 million bond.

The investigation is still ongoing.
